Have you seen the post "3 Hobbies" on Pinterest? I saw it awhile back and I think it's brilliantly simple...and it got me thinking about my hobbies and if I'm this balanced. Read on to find out which ones I do for each and lmk what yours are!
One to Make You Money
I’m lucky that two of my hobbies are also my bread and butter. Design and photography are two of my ultimate faves...and I’m SOOO lucky that I get to do them every day...AND get paid for them!
I’ve always loved photography (well, since college anyway), but now it makes a little extra money for me too. It’s a great creative outlet, I get to think differently and I learn to solve problems in a totally different way than I do for design. It literally changes my brain! It also forces me to get off my yass and socialize with people (design work can be super solo sometimes!).
And design...oh how I love thee (!!) LOVE LOVE LOVE. It’s my most fave thing in the whole world! I eat/sleep/breathe design. I was actually a couple years into NKU's design program before I really fell in love with it though (seems crazy now!). A professor of mine (hey, Tom Davie!) showed me how mixing my fine art sensibility with design takes it to a whole new level (and makes it wayyy more fun!). This realization changed my world and from that day, I just fall more and more in love with design.
One to Keep You in Shape
Mine is def hiking! I do go to the gym sometimes, but have never been super regular with it. Hiking is triple-fun because I get to be out in nature, take beautiful photos, hang out with other people and I get exercise! Wait, that’s four, so I guess it’s quadruple-fun! What could be better than great conversation in an inspiring and beautiful natural setting?
I also play tennis fairly often—mostly with my husband and sometimes with others too (u wanna play? TXT me!). I love playing with Aaron because he’s one of THOSE people that are naturally good at any and every sport...and wins EVERYTHING, so he keeps me on my toes. It’s like having my own personal tennis coach! I also love to try out new courts, so if you know a court I should try or if you ever want to play a set or two, let me know!
Note: I just realized that it says “one” but I’ve been listing two hobbies for each category. Ahhahaha oops! Well I guess I’ll follow the rules for this last one at least.
One to Be Creative
I love wheel-throwing, aka ceramics (shoutout: Covington Clay!), because it’s a totally different creative outlet than design and photography...and I get to make something with my hands. I’m not really that GOOD at ceramics, but it's fun and it takes all my concentration to get that damn clay centered so it's very meditative for me. I can’t possibly think about anything else when that clay is wobbling all over the wheel xD. One of the best things about ceramics is that after your pot/cup/bowl has been fired and glazed, you have this tangible object that YOU MADE WITH UR OWN HANDS to take home. That feels SO good.
So these are my three (I mean five, haha!) hobbies. Tell me yours!
